Residence Card

A Residence Card is a document that allows foreigners to legally stay in Poland for a specified period of time – up to three years. What is more, it allows them to travel freely within the Schengen area without having to obtain additional visas.


WHO CAN APPLY FOR A RESIDENCE CARD?

Any person who meets the following criteria may apply for a temporary residence card:

  • Is legally present in Poland on the date of submitting the application.
  • I want to settle in Poland for longer than my visa or visa-free travel allows.
  • Has a specific purpose for their stay.

BASICS OF APPLYING FOR A RESIDENCE PERMIT

A temporary residence permit may be granted on various grounds, depending on the purpose of the foreigner’s stay. Here are the most common reasons for applying for a temporary residence permit:

  • Work: Foreigners who have received a job offer in Poland may apply for a temporary residence card in connection with their work. This may include both employees and self-employed persons.
  • Studies: Persons who have commenced higher education studies in Poland may apply for a temporary residence card on the basis of their student status.
  • Family reunification: Spouses, children, parents, or other family members of Polish citizens or foreigners holding a residence card may apply for a temporary residence card for the purpose of family reunification.

  • International protection: Foreign nationals who apply for refugee status may receive a temporary residence card while awaiting a decision on their application.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE REQUIRED TO APPLY FOR A RESIDENCE CARD?

The process of applying for a temporary residence card typically requires the following documents to be prepared:

  • 4 photographs measuring 35 mm x 45 mm.
  • A photocopy of your entire passport.
  • A completed application for temporary residence in Polish.
  • Health insurance.
  • Documents confirming the availability of financial resources.
  • Confirmation of payment of the stamp duty for submitting the application (PLN 440 or PLN 340, depending on the purpose of stay).
  • Other documents depending on the purpose of your stay.
